Compare solar companies in Sacramento, CA: Qcells solar and battery

Start with the home’s actual electricity bill, rate plan and energy-use pattern. All Star Solar prepares a preliminary solar-and-battery direction for Sacramento homeowners and explains available Axia by Qcells and EnFin pathways before a decision is made.

Utility and rate plan first

Many addresses are served by SMUD, while nearby properties may have a different electric provider; the current bill is the source of truth.

Sacramento region conditions

Long, hot summers can make cooling demand a major part of household electricity use.

Solar and storage together

System direction should account for summer peaks, shade from mature trees, roof condition and whether battery backup or bill management is the priority.

SACRAMENTO SOLAR RULES · REVIEWED SEPTEMBER 19, 2026

SMUD billing, interconnection and City permits need one property-specific plan.

Model the current SMUD account

For a Sacramento home served by SMUD, the municipal utility's Solar and Storage Rate—not an investor-owned-utility tariff—is the relevant starting point. SMUD states that residential Solar and Storage Rate customers remain on the Time-of-Day (5–8 p.m.) Rate and, effective June 1, 2026, receive 9.6 cents per kWh for excess electricity sent to the grid regardless of time or season. Existing original-NEM accounts can differ, so the current bill, interconnection history and controlling SMUD schedule must be verified before modeling a proposal.

Coordinate City review with SMUD interconnection

The City of Sacramento offers an automated SolarAPP+ review path for eligible one- and two-unit residential structures and ADUs when a registered licensed contractor submits a qualifying project. The City also publishes a standard residential-solar review path for projects that do not use SolarAPP+. Both paths require a City permit workflow, supporting documents and inspection; neither replaces SMUD's Rule 21 interconnection review. The service address must establish whether the City or another jurisdiction issues the permit.

Design around the 5–8 p.m. period

SMUD's residential Time-of-Day peak period runs from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. A battery can shift daytime solar production into that period or reserve energy for selected backup loads, but those are different design goals. The proposal should state usable capacity, operating reserve, supported circuits and dispatch assumptions, and it should not treat every exported kilowatt-hour as a retail-rate credit or guarantee savings or outage duration.

A Sacramento proposal should use the complete current electric bill and 12 months of usage when available, identify the serving utility and existing solar-program status, review roof planes and mature-tree shade, document service-panel and permit conditions, account for summer cooling and future EV or electrification loads, and state whether storage is intended for bill management, backup or both.

A PROPERTY-SPECIFIC REVIEW

What your Sacramento solar proposal should explain.

A credible proposal should connect system size to the household’s consumption, show the production assumptions, identify the equipment, explain the ownership and payment structure, and name the licensed contractor responsible for installation. City and county names do not replace a site review.

  • Current utility and rate schedule
  • Twelve months of usage when available
  • Roof planes, material, age and shade
  • Main service panel and electrical conditions
  • Daytime versus evening consumption
  • Battery backup and bill-management priorities

CALIFORNIA SOLAR BILLING

Why the serving utility changes the solar math.

SMUD's Solar and Storage Rate uses the residential Time-of-Day (5–8 p.m.) structure and a separately published export-compensation rate. Effective June 1, 2026, SMUD lists that export rate as 9.6 cents per kWh. Original-NEM customers approved before March 1, 2022 may retain different treatment through 2030, subject to SMUD's rules, and certain system or storage changes can trigger a move to the Solar and Storage Rate. The account record—not a citywide assumption—controls the comparison.

Qcells SOLAR · AXIA BY Qcells

Qcells technology with an Axia by Qcells pathway in Sacramento.

All Star Solar is an independent solar sales organization and authorized sales partner of Axia by Qcells. The final proposal identifies the equipment, payment structure, production assumptions, warranties, project responsibilities and appropriately licensed installation contractor.

COMPARE SACRAMENTO SOLAR OPTIONS

Solar quotes, estimates, panels, batteries and payment options—reviewed together.

Homeowners searching for a solar company, solar installers, solar installation estimates or the best solar deal in Sacramento are often shown a price before the home has been properly reviewed. Our process starts with the bill and service address, then organizes the information needed to compare a Qcells solar-and-battery proposal, available EnFin financing, a fixed-payment lease, a production-based PPA or an ownership option when available.

All Star Solar provides sales guidance and proposal coordination. All Star Solar is not Qcells, Axia, EnFin, the manufacturer or the installation contractor. The appropriately licensed contractor responsible for installation is identified in the final written proposal and agreement.

SACRAMENTO SOLAR QUESTIONS

Your solar questions, answered.

Is solar available in Sacramento?

All Star Solar reviews residential opportunities throughout Sacramento and Sacramento County. Availability depends on the property, utility, roof, electrical conditions, program requirements and final project approval.

How do I request a solar quote or estimate in Sacramento?

Send the current electric bill and service address for a preliminary All Star Solar Blueprint. If the property appears suitable, the next step is a complete proposal identifying equipment, estimated production, payment structure and project responsibilities.

Who performs the solar installation?

All Star Solar is an independent solar sales organization—not the installation contractor. Project fulfillment and installation are performed by an appropriately licensed contractor identified in the final proposal and agreement.

Which electric utility serves my address?

SMUD serves many Sacramento addresses, but a Sacramento mailing address does not by itself prove the electric provider or permitting jurisdiction. All Star Solar verifies the current bill and service address before applying SMUD's Solar and Storage Rate, interconnection requirements or City permit process.

Do I need HOA approval for solar in Sacramento?

Check the property’s current HOA documents and any applicable review process before installation. The proposal should identify roof placement, visibility constraints and who submits required materials; an HOA review does not replace the city permit or utility interconnection.

Should the system include a battery?

That depends on hourly consumption, evening use, backup priorities, the applicable tariff, equipment, program terms and budget. The battery should be designed around a defined purpose—not added as a generic upsell.

Does SMUD use California's investor-owned-utility Net Billing Tariff?

No. SMUD is a municipal utility with its own Solar and Storage Rate, export compensation and Rule 21 interconnection requirements. Original-NEM accounts can have different treatment, so the current account and interconnection history must be reviewed before any credit or savings assumption is used.

Can I choose a lease, PPA, financing or ownership?

Qualifying homeowners may be able to compare EnFin payment pathways through the Axia by Qcells ecosystem. Availability, pricing, protections and qualifications are governed by the final proposal and agreement.
