COMPARE THE COMPLETE PROPOSAL

Identify the contractor who will perform the work

Ask for the legal business name, license number and contract party. Verify the current CSLB record and whether the proposed scope matches the contractor’s qualifications. A salesperson’s registration and a separate construction business’s license do not identify the installer automatically.

CLARITY BEFORE COMMITMENT

Use the correct utility account

Anaheim Public Utilities has its own solar rules. Other Orange County homes can have investor-owned utility service and separate community-choice generation. Review the entire bill, existing solar enrollment and service address before comparing production credits or storage savings.

CLARITY BEFORE COMMITMENT

Local permit experience should be specific

Ask which city will review the plans, whether the design qualifies for an automated process, and how roof, panel or battery changes will be handled. Request the permit number once submitted and keep the approved plans. Irvine, Huntington Beach, Costa Mesa and other cities publish different application instructions. Familiarity with one city does not remove the need to check the current requirements for another.

CLARITY BEFORE COMMITMENT

Compare written scope and follow-through

Equipment model, quantity and layout. Roof and electrical work, exclusions and change-order process. Permits, inspections and utility-submission responsibility. Estimated production and the assumptions behind it. Battery circuits, operating reserve and supported loads. Payment schedule, warranties, transfer provisions and service contacts.

CLARITY BEFORE COMMITMENT

Choose a proposal you can explain

Ask each team to resolve the same questions in writing. A useful comparison shows the solar payment plus remaining utility charges, separates estimates from contractual promises and names the people responsible after installation.

VERIFY CURRENT PRODUCT INFORMATION

Review the manufacturer’s current documentation.

Product names, specifications, availability and warranty terms can change. Confirm the exact proposed model and controlling documents before making a decision.
